Short Term memory

Our brain processes and stores information in many different ways. One of such way is short term memory, particularly in recall that information that we have recently processed. Our brain tends to determine if the specific information is meant for long term or short term storage. It is mainly due to the importance or the effect of the information on us.

Many have thought that short term memory is affected by old age, however this is not essentially the case. It could be caused by depression, dementia, Alzheimer and low blood sugar perhaps some of the old age sickness, but short term memory occurs in all ages. Do consult a physician though if you have any of these sicknesses.

Such memory issue can be detected via tests like random number test. Another of such detection is by asking them how often an individual forget dates, parking place, car key etc. The following are some of the things we could do to battle such memory issue.

1) Keep a notebook handy and jot down essential information like phone numbers, important dates and phone numbers when you get it.

2) Cultivate good habit. If you are to take regular medication and ensure that it is practiced everyday till it become a habit.

3) Engage your mind. Our brain is similar to muscle that requires constant workouts. Read about anything, those we are familiar and not. This will help stimulate your mind and keep it active. Sudoku, Chess and Crossword puzzles are also useful mental exercise.

4) There are also many books on memory improvement. Link method and various excellent techniques will help you to memorize and gear up your mind.

5) Natural supplement, though controversial, is potential another remedy for short term memory issue. However, do consult a physician before consuming any of them.
